Kicking off 2020, I wanted to focus on songs that carry the instrumentation that really evokes the soul, such as funky bass lines, strings, and horns. The first song up is Shalamar’s 1979 hit “The Second Time Around.” A funky post-disco track with a fun arrangement to get you moving. With that signature disco bell and funk bass line, its definitely a track that should be added to the mix of any house party or family barbecue.
Shalamar is a soul music vocal group that was signed to Don Cornelius and Dick Griffey’s SOLAR Records. The group consisted of Jody Watley, Jeffrey Daniel, and Howard Hewett. Jody Watley and Jeffrey Daniel were popular dancers and trendsetters on the Soul Train. Shalamar had a string of hits from through the 70s and and 80s with producer Leon Sylvers III.
If you are in need of a funky track, make sure you add this to your playlists.
