London alt-pop duo Jadu Heart mine the dark sides of love and passion on new single ‘Purity’. Despite this, the track starts fairly harmoniously, with smooth vocals gliding over warm, rich plucks of acoustic guitar. It all turns on a sixpence after a minute and a half though, with reverb-drenched guitars reminiscent of The xx gliding their way in over a glitchy beat. ‘Purity’ is perhaps the clearest artistic statement yet from Jadu Heart – creators of imaginative, cosmic pop which takes classic tropes (tripped-out psychedelia, introspective electronica, alternative folk and soul) and breathes completely fresh air into them.
”The track is about the conflicts that arise between two people as they become closer. The dark side of love, intense and devastating at its low points, only becomes more beautiful and sacred as you push through,” they say of the track.
The softer melodies then continue accompanied with a growling bassline adding an edge to the general dream-like vibe of the record. ‘Purity’ showcases all the strengths of the group by combining their signature sounds of spacey vocals and the electronic drums. The duo remains one to keep an eye on due to their constant experimentation and variation.
