Congolese vocalist and performer , Fally Ipupa came to prominence as a protégé of his compatriot Koffi Olomide in the band Quartier Latin from 1999 to 2006.
Just like other flamboyant Congolese performers, Fally Ipupa too is known by many stage names including ‘DiCaprio’, ‘King Arthur’, King Hustler, the ‘Golden Child of Congo’ and has recently started calling himself ‘The Greatest’ ( after watching the recent boxing fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor in Las Vegas).
Fally is one of the current crop of african artists that transformed their traditional rumba style by incorporating eclectic modern influences and pushing their music to the mainstream.
No other track better exemplifies this trend than Fally Ipupa’s new single Eloko Oyo from his latest album ,Tokoos. The Congolese singer songwriter came through big time on this very traditional sound infused with drops of keys and unpitched congolese percussion.
I cannot understand or speak the french and Lingala languages Fally juggles in his lyrics but I can guarantee you will be glued on from the start till the end of the track excitingly waiting for the next curve or pitch on the track.
