I’m all for old music. And when I mean old, I’m talking about the New Wave type of old because it’s really what I grew up with. From a bit of the early ‘60s all the way to the late ‘90s. But this band? I just got into them when I heard their album Excuses for Travellers. I thought to myself, “Hey this is like a really mellow acoustic type of band.” But then I searched more about them and found out that their first album was Ask Me Tomorrow, which was released in 1995!
It’s so great when you listen to Mojave 3 and understand the range and depth they’ve gone through. Now, I’m not the wildest listener of Country, but I can appreciate it. And this album, together with the band’s sound, was described as Countrygaze. Of course, I was intrigued because I love the Shoegaze genre. And as I was listening to the album, it’s like it all just lined up and I fell so in love with it.
And this may seem out of nowhere, but as I was listening to their sound some more, a handful of the songs in this album reminded me of the mellow tracks from Chicano Batman, specifically Stoned Soul Picnic.
Oh and of course, I have to end this short write-up with their sultry music video! So give it a listen, and relax away…
