“The keyword with this track is empowerment,” is how this song was described when it was submitted. This instantly grabbed my attention and I was not disappointed. As a woman today, it’s still a ridiculously steep uphill battle to be treated equally and like a normal human being. From personal experience, it can be hard to break out of this idea that you have to be sweet and nice in order to get what you need and want from the world. Emilie captures that feeling perfectly with her chorus:
”Out with the old in with the break through
This is what bold looks like in plain view
I'm never this cold don't want to be rude
Watch who you're talking to”
Let’s get rid of our old ways and start progressing. Be bold even if you might seem cold. It’s not only important for women to feel empowered but for other women to encourage each other. I’ve seen too many women participate in making their own women coworkers fear asking for a raise or for time off. At most companies, women still can’t take time off from work after having a baby and one of the main arguments is that then women would have babies once a year for the paid time off… um no. It’s time to stand up for what you want and what you deserve. Don’t let anyone, man or woman, tell you you’re too strong or too aggressive. Tell them to watch who they’re talking to.
A great song to walk to before you walk into the office, it’ll remind you what you’re worth. Keep your head held high, ladies.
