Billie Eilish is definitely unique. Her music is always fun and eclectic, taking on different sounds and themes, but her lyrics always seems to hit home. Speaking about her and her brother's collaboration, Billie says a lot of their songwriting and lyrics come from common experiences:
"A lot of the time we go through the same stuff, so it's a mixture of what he's going through and what I'm going through. It's kind of half and half: a lot of them are fictional and a lot of them are not"
The song "bury a friend" is a perfect example of her music, soft, haunting, with a slight edge. Singing about the monster under her bed, the song is about Billie's insomnia issues and her fears haunting her and keeping her awake at night.
Billie has a few other great songs, but what I definitely love the most about her are her crazy music videos. bury a friend has some very interesting shots including one of Billie's back with medical needles sticking out of her back. In her music video for "when the party's over" she drinks a glass of black liquid which then pours out of her eyes. She's written songs for the series 13 Reasons Why.
What I really love about her music is not only the beat, which is great for this playlist, or the lyrics, which always make me think, but the feelings her songs illicit. It channels my inner teenage angst but with a more mature feel, so I don't feel as childish when I'm feeling angry at the world, because, let's admit it, the world is pretty frustrating today. If you play this while you strut, it might be more of a determined walk than a confidence one.
