It’s like this. You know that scene in The Devil Wears Prada, where Anne Hathaway has gone through a complete makeover because she wants to impress her boss? And she walks through the NYC streets in all of her new high-fashion outfits? She’s hailing cabs, running across the street in heels (somehow elegantly?), and she’s walking through the office like she owns the place as the song Vogue by Madonna plays.
Or what about that scene in (500) Days of Summer where Summer and Tom are walking through downtown LA to Sweet Disposition by The Temper Trap? As the music plays, the couple looks up at the beautiful architecture, laugh, and pass time by drawing on a park bench as the light turns from day to night.
Or what about a true throwback? In The Lizzie McGuire Movie when Lizzie walks down the catwalk trying on different (ridiculous) outfits to the song Supermodel (You Better Work) by RuPaul (performed by Taylor Dayne).
The point is, when I commute to work or walk around the streets of NYC, I walk at a fast pace and my music needs to match. It needs to hit all the right beats and it needs to make me feel like I’m the star of the movie that is my life. It gives me confidence, it makes me happier, and (BONUS!) it increases my heart rate as I walk faster and therefore, burns more calories!
This playlist is here to work as the soundtrack to your brilliant transformation scene in the movie that is YOUR life. Hit shuffle and hit the pavement like it was a runway and the cameras are following your every step. You are a star when this playlist plays.
Take Your Man – Mahogany Lox

God Bless TikTok. My new favorite app. The first sign I’m getting old. An app that has basically replaced vine, a vehicle for short funny videos to become viral…
Mr. Big Shot – Emilie Brandt
7 October 2019
“The keyword with this track is empowerment,” is how this song was described when it was submitted. This instantly grabbed my attention and I was not disappointed. As a woman today, it’s still a ridiculously steep uphill battle to be treated equally and like a normal human being…
All For Us – Labrinth & Zendaya
11 September 2019
Honestly, I should be paid by the entertainment industry but how often I promote shows and movies. Now, I’m not sure how many people actually read these posts, if any, but for those who might, you might know I’m a cinephile and a tv show…phile… (is there a word for that, too?). I’m always referencing entertainment in these posts…
Boom – X Ambassadors
13 August 2019
Catchy, fun, and yet meaningful. Boom is about a breaking away from a toxic relationship. The pain and anger turns into fuel to get your feet walking out the door. I’ve written before about how difficult it is to see a relationship from the outside. His song “Gang Shit” tells the story of three Americans; a cop, a KKK clan member, and an incarcerated black man…
Gang Shit – Marlon Craft
26 June 2019
Marlon Craft is a New York rapper who is slowly building his way to fame. He is all about spaces for New York artists to collaborate and come up with new material.

Drift – Alina Baraz & Galimatias

Sometimes, I get stuck in the past. I replay moments, looking for closure or signs or anything to bring those moments back. When you lose someone, physically or emotionally, you tend to go back to the past a lot. Eventually, you move forward, and start living in the present but every once in a while, you’re pulled back. When there’s a lack of closure, it acts like an anchor…
Vogue – Madonna
14 May 2019
First let me start off by saying I’m sorry this took me so long. I just felt it was a little too on the nose, but it just needs to be on the playlist. The whole idea for this playlist started with this song, after all. Plus, my coffee table is toppling over with Vogue magazines and books…
You & Jennifer – bülow

Relationships can be tricky and every one is different. We’ve all had a friend discuss their relationship issues and you try to give them advice and although they agree and nod their heads yes, they don’t act on it. Or vice versa, you’ve been the one to get advice but you know that they just don’t understand the complexities of your relationship. No one can completely understand another’s relationship but every once in a while, music does…
Coming Over (filous Remix) – James Hersey
9 April 2019
With not a lot of information just yet on this rising star, I’m given the opportunity to talk about the song itself. What I do know about James Hersey is he was raised in Vienna, Austria and abandoned a jazz-guitar degree to become a singer-songwriter which all started with this song…
I Got 5 On It (Tethered Mix from Us) – Michael Abels, Luniz, Michael Marshall

A man after my own heart, Jordan Peele loves to create movies with hidden meanings that are thought-provoking and intentional. In film school, we were always told that there’s a reason for everything in a film, accidents don’t happen. Jordan Peele takes that to another level, making sure to leave easter eggs and clues throughout his films…
bury a friend – Billie Eilish
12 March 2019
Billie Eilish is definitely unique. Her music is always fun and eclectic, taking on different sounds and themes, but her lyrics always seems to hit home. Speaking about her and her brother’s collaboration, Billie says a lot of their songwriting and lyrics come from common experiences…
Another One Bites The Dust – Queen / Killmonger – Ludwig Goransson
26 February 2019
Film has always been a big part of my life. My grandmother likes the brag that she took me to my first movie ever and from there, she started my adventure into film. She introduced me to Hitchcock, Jimmy Stewart, and most importantly, Cary Grant. We watched them all. Every weekend, a different film. Some Like It Hot, Rear Window, Casablanca, The Shop Around The Corner, The Sound of Music. I fell in love with the classic black & white look, the classy women, and the fast talking, hopeless romantic atmosphere of that world…
