Future Islands is a wonderful mixture of pure, raw emotion and beautiful sounds, a magnificent balance between good taste and expression coming from awesome synths and an amazing front man.
Their studio music isn’t completely faithful to how incredible Samuel T. Herring’s performances are, for a good example on this you can check their unforgettable network TV debut on Letterman on 2014, he has a wonderful ability to express gigantic amounts of emotion and yet it seems like he has way more inside, like a volcano that needs to be contained because it might explode with such incredible strength that nobody could survive.
It feels like your heart can be ripped out from your chest and be sung to after been shaken multiple times, Samuel has so much to express and sometimes it feels like his voice isn’t enough, that’s why he exploits it and uses extreme sounds that can even make it even seem unnatural at times, his vocal expression is really quite unique but very true to the huge amount of emotion he’s constantly portraying.
Sometimes I see them live and can’t help on thinking Samuel seems like an office man that discovered he could touch people’s souls during an office karaoke night and after that he just went crazy.
In spite of any of my funny explanations for this band’s awesomeness, they’re a great band to listen to at night, Seasons (Waiting On You) is an awesome song and fits perfectly with our playlist.
P.D. Watch the Later… with Jools Holland version of Seasons (Waiting On You) too, killer moves right there.
