Arguably one of the most talented songwriters of our time, r&b artist Sabrina Claudio stuns listeners with her recent song “Truth Is.” Part of the 2019 album by the same, this track touches on the array of emotions we all feel but are often too afraid to voice. With lyricism as deep and resonating as hers, it seems as if Claudio reaches into the depths of her soul and writes from a place of pure feeling. Even more, the short title serves as a call to action, encouraging listeners to open up and take the risk of being honest and vulnerable. Here’s a short excerpt from the track:
“Truth is I'm dishonest
'Cause I'm always scared to get too deep
Truth is that I want this
'Cause I always see you in my sleep
Truth is that I love you, mmm
Even when I'm trying not to”
Starting out with a lonely guitar, the track quickly blossoms with the introduction of Sabrina Claudio’s velvety vocals and a set of crisp drums. The vivid imagery paired with her heavy-hearted singing paints the clear picture of missing someone but letting ego get in the way of admitting it. The track follows the lyrics perfectly, almost shimmering and exploding when Claudio reveals her true emotions and quieting when her lies find the spotlight again. Clearly, everything in the track complements each other in order to make the most moving piece possible.
And if you’re ever curious about whether or not you’re listening to a Sabrina Claudio song, one of her signature moves is her stunning choir of vocals in the background, which of course make an appearance in “Truth Is” as well. The harmonies and scattered airy voices make the piece feel alive, as if it’s breathing. To add to that, Claudio’s voice always seamlessly weaves through the track, without over complication and with pure ease. So, whether you’re looking to cry, relax, daydream, or let go, as long as you’re ready to truly feel something, “Truth Is” is for you.

About the Curator: Rhea Patil
As an 18 year old who just moved to New York City to study Music Business at NYU, I’m constantly finding myself in unfamiliar territory and have come to realize I’m not going to settle in anytime soon. So, while I’ve been exploring the city and growing from each experience, I’ve racked up a pretty extensive list of the best music I’ve come across and want to keep sharing this art with you. When I'm not discovering and sharing new music though, I'm writing and creating my own music to share with the world. In fact, I’m working on releasing my debut EP right now!
