Last year, producer, songwriter, and DJ SG Lewis teamed up with bedroom pop sensation Clairo to create your new favorite electro-pop track: “Throwaway”. Unlike the name suggests, this phenomenal song is most definitely a keeper and the perfect follow up to the duo’s first collaboration in 2018.
With it’s addictive melody and dreamy soundscape, “Throwaway” highlights both artists’ individual strengths as musicians and will send you into a trance you didn’t know you needed. As Clairo floats above the track with her silky voice and nostalgic lines, SG Lewis fabricates a world that twinkles and shines underneath. At first listen, “Throwaway” seems simple and comfortable, but as the song progresses, it begins to blossom and spin and grow. Especially if we listen to the vocals, Clairo's soft voice seems to gradually swell and open up, eventually sounding as if her voice is just falling from above. More than a musician, I’d say SG Lewis is a true painter drawing out this other-worldly environment I’d only known to exist in dreams.
The combination of SG Lewis's bubbly and idyllic production style and Clairo's angelic vocals makes for the perfect indie-pop track that could either lull you to sleep or make you want to dance. This being their sophomore collaboration, you should definitely listen to their first song "Better" if you enjoy disco-pop and want a banger too. Hopefully, the two will put out more entrancing songs in the near future but until then, keep listening to "Throwaway" and enjoy.
