Our love can mean the world to us. So much so that when it’s gone, our whole world changes color.
Only Colour I See is a sad, blues Pink Floyd style song, but with all the benefits of modern recording – no tape noise here. This lets you concentrate on the intimate setting of the song. Only Colour I See starts as an intimate electric piano and vocal piece, with space being the greatest accompaniment. As the chorus line hits, a rock bass and drums drive the vocals home. A smooth, vintage guitar solo embellishes the song in the center, and is quelled for just one verse, until it violently reenters at the close of the song.
Did I mention that I wrote it (I also sang and played everything on it, but who’s keeping score…)? Therefore I can give some more juicy details about the song than I normally could. Keeping with the theme of my debut album, Lonely Too, it deals with feelings of jealousy, resentment, and the peculiar feeling I have coined “angry-sad” – one of the inspirations for this playlist.
Only Colour I See is not about anyone in particular, but I spent my high school days lusting over two gorgeous women, and the chorus “the only colour I see is blue” can probably enlighten you as to how it turned out for me.
Even when we acquire that love we have stayed up at night longing for, we still may be left feeling blue.
