Life is a crazy ass thing - one minute you're strolling along, minding the world's business, acting out the role of superhero and wondering - what if this is all there is? Suddenly you're pulled out of your body and replaced by something else - something weird - something foreign - something possibly Scottish!
Yes my friends - welcome to a new path - a new experience - a new perspective. It's July - the first month of the second half of the year - the summer equinox has passed - we've completed the work that will define our future and it's time to start a new journey.
For the next month there will be a different soundtrack - yes it will still be heroic - it will still address the challenges that all superheroes face - but it will be delivered by Andrew, another music to curator.. Matt will be spending this month curating the Music to Write an Essay to list so if you're looking for some ambient writing music, you should totally check it out.
So - now that we have the introductions out of the way - let me tell you about this week and indeed, this month's track.
It is the hero's destiny to face challenges, to overcome and be changed by them - whether temptation or physical obstacle - every one of us follows the same path. Whether you're Odysseus setting out for the Trojan wars, Alice falling down the rabbit hole or even you - dear reader - stepping out your front door on the way to work - you'd better believe that weird ass shit is going to happen and you'd best be prepared to deal with it.
Everyone's challenge is different - for some it could be dealing with a difficult problem at work or even a difficult boss, for others it could be dealing with a random car accident or helping a sick loved one - challenges by definition are things that don't form part of your normal life but are placed firmly in your way to see if you can deal with them.
Himalaya take's its inspiration from the massive mountain range that forms the highest obstacle on the planet. From its towering Everest peak to its treacherous K2 summit, the Himalayas form the most formidable challenge to humankind and only the truly determined have been known to conquer them.
While the vast majority of us are not headed to Tibet any time soon - we can all relate to something massive that is in our way that has to be overcome. How will you tackle your challenge - how will you generate the strength and the tenacity to overcome such an obstacle?
The thing about such challenges is that rarely is there a manual to help you conquer - the only way you get to defeat such a thing is to start climbing - to start addressing the problem - to move one foot in front of the other and to react - in the moment - to the immediate problems it presents.
This is the true nature of being an every day super hero - the ability and will to stand up and be counted - to actually spend your time and energy on moving forward. It is a journey that all true super heroes take. There is no map, no GPS, no guided path to show you the way - there is only your will, your fortitude and the sound of a music that was developed to accompany you on your travels.
This is Himalaya - this is the energy you need to tackle your challenge head on - this is your auditory balloon that lifts you up and helps you rise above your own personal obstacle.
Pack in it in your utility belt heroes - when the going gets tough, bring it out and play it loud, because the journey - the journey starts now...

About the curator - Andrew McCluskey
The first visual memory I have is that of the white upright piano in Singapore, Hell and the dark forces lived at the bottom, Heaven and the Angels at the top. They would play battles through my fingers and I was hooked.
Although I've always played, I haven't always been a musician. Most of my twenties were spent working with people, buying and selling and learning how the world works. It was in my thirties that I came to America and focused on music and began to develop music2work2.

The thing about works borne of pure creative passion is that they tend to take a lot to complete. This doesn’t just mean they take a lot of time (although time certainly accounts for a lot of the taking), they also take a lot of focused mental energy. This is the real sacrifice we have to make for our art…
