What can I say? I miss Chris Cornell. I know I’m not alone in that sentiment. His passing affected me in a way that I never saw coming. I had no desire to sing or play a guitar for 3 weeks… that’s the tremendous amount of loss that I felt, and that’s how I know his music belongs here.
His songwriting knew no boundaries, nor did his unique voice. Whether he was fronting Soundgarden or Audioslave, or singing solo, his music has always been heard blasting in my car, on my iPod, and in my heart. My one regret is that I never got to tell him just how much his music affected me, and saved me during the toughest of times. His music is the best friend that empathizes with my sadness, grieves with me, and then swiftly kicks me in the ass when it’s time to get back up and start living. It never leaves my side.
“When I’m Down” is my absolute favorite song by Chris. Not only because his voice is powerfully emotive, and the piano is simply stunning, but his words… “I only love you when I’m down… But one thing for you to keep in mind, you know, that I’m down all the time”. Straight to the soul this one goes.

Learn more about the Curator, Belinda M.
Named after Belinda Carlisle, solo artist and lead singer for The Go-Gos, making music has always been second nature to Belinda M. Growing up in a household that was largely influenced by Filipino culture, it was impossible for her to avoid belting out a few tunes into a karaoke mic at an early age. After her parents discovered she could play piano by ear at age 4, lessons promptly began. She later started writing poetry and playing guitar, which eventually lead to her becoming a singer/songwriter.
For Belinda, writing and listening to music has always been an essential creative outlet and place of solace. She released her debut EP, “I’m Not Broken” in October 2016, and continues to write and release new music. Her lyrics have been recognized by “American Songwriter Magazine” and her music is featured on the award-winning “Women Of Substance Radio and Podcast.” Check out Belinda’s music and learn more at www.belindammusic.com
