We jellyfish are living embodiments of the essence of poetry. Poetry in motion, one might even say. We are simple, succinct, infinitely manifold -- even pointlessly so -- and beautiful to contemplate. As the world's most efficient swimmers, we also aptly represent the words of Polonius from Shakespeare's Hamlet:
"… since brevity is the soul of wit, And tediousness the limbs and outward flourishes, I will be brief."
All jellyfish are great fans of the Bard. That's one reason we are most pleased with this week's excellent selection submitted to the jellyfish playlist a little while back. It's a musical rendition of Shakespeare's Sonnet 130, quoted below, by APE featuring Layla Moallem and Jah-Zee.
My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun;
Coral is far more red than her lips' red;
If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun;
If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head.
I have seen roses damask'd, red and white,
But no such roses see I in her cheeks;
And in some perfumes is there more delight
Than in the breath that from my mistress reeks.
I love to hear her speak, yet well I know
That music hath a far more pleasing sound;
I grant I never saw a goddess go;
My mistress, when she walks, treads on the ground:
And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare
As any she belied with false compare.
This is not the most flattering love poem, but that's Shakespeare for you. Drops a profound truth in the form of a joke about trying to be profound. Always making fun of you and himself with unmatched style. We jellyfish are also realists. We appreciate truth in advertising as long as the presentation is pleasing.

We jellyfish are masters of the art of subtlety. When we hunt, we simply wait for our supper to come to us. Our energy is expended on arriving in the right place at the right time. Preparation and planning is the key. Gauging the movements of the currents, smelling the morsels on the waves…

We jellyfish don’t know anything. You might think we’d be confused by this, but in fact the opposite is true. There’s great certainty in total emptiness. We’re never torn by indecision. We never have to worry about what’s right and what’s wrong. We can just go with the flow and let the waves wash over us…
