Track submissions always get me excited and even a little giddy – this one was no exception. I’m so glad Michael Barrow stumbled on this playlist and submitted one of his band’s songs because this week’s track has been stuck in my head since the first time I heard it…and I’m not sorry about it.

"Sing Me Something New" begins as a chill, anticipatory ode to the newness of life before dropping straight into energetic anthem rock. We vividly remember the excitement of heading off to college and starting adulthood. This song is all about that newness and excitement, as well as finding camaraderie and friendship. It features some excellent drumming by drummer Reed Perkins, and a crazy guitar solo by Trevor Harmon. Catchy gang vocals abound in this celebration of life and music.
I love the theme of coming home in this track. “Where is your home?” It’s a seemingly straightforward question, but as we all know simple questions are all it takes to evoke pretty complicated thoughts. My ideas of home are never stagnant or dependent on one particular place. I like it better that way because it means that no matter the number of farewells I have to give in life, I get to carry home in me no matter what. Home, as best as my small mind can define it, consists of the sweet memories I keep of the people, places, and even circumstances that have poured life into me and vice-versa. Home, therefore, is constantly growing, welcoming change and newness. Just like us. I can embrace any of life’s invitations to create and recreate our sense of home and that’s pretty great.
