It’s been a bit of a hiatus for this playlist, but I’m excited to get back into the swing of things. This week’s track, was a submission I received from artist Paul de Leon. Here’s what he has to say about his song, Criminals.
My 20s were the first time in my life where I started to build the foundation of who I am and what I stand for. At the same time I was still directionless and naive, however there was one feeling that resonated through all the noise:
I wanted to run away. From my job, from family pressure, from my city, and into the sunset with someone I loved. I felt that I didn't belong in the societal constructs that I was raised in.
I wrote the song 'Criminals' to try to express that desire to find someone to run away with into the unknown, bound by nothing else but a mutual infatuation and a desire to escape the lives that we currently live.
This song is a great time stamp on what I currently feel in my 20s.
For a while now, I had been finding myself in a state of restlessness, feeling very uninspired, and at some points even lacking the motivation to do a lot of the things I knew I really loved doing. Sometimes all it takes is a single person remind you of all the fun and exciting things life has to offer. Your feelings are powerful enough to spur you to action. Especially once you find something so sweet and worth chasing after.
So if anyone is in need of some inspiration for the perfect escape – even if its ephemeral – here’s the song for you.

About The Curator - Jordan Yutan
Jordan finds joy in simple things like brunch, naps on the grass, and long car rides with the music on high. Her version of fun consists of dance parties, movie marathons and – of course – karaoke. Music has been such a key part in shaping her spirituality. She believes the first time she felt God reaching out to her was through a song and that still happens time and time again. She sees music as a vessel to vulnerability and will gladly invite anyone to listen, but especially wants to hear the songs in their own hearts. She dreams of visiting cafés all across the world, and meeting all kinds of people over a cup of coffee. But for now, she’s making the most out of college, soaking up the sun in her beautiful campus of UC Santa Barbara.
