If you’ve seen the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, maybe you’ll feel a slight nostalgia hearing this song. Zedd and Aloe Blacc take their own spin on the classic, “The Candy Man Can” in their own version – which I personally think is even more fun and catchy! It tugs at my own heartstrings as well.
The first time I heard it was at a birthday party for 5 different and extraordinary girlfriends. So many people showed up and there were 5 different themes chosen by each of the friends! I listen to this song and I’m drawn back to that perfect night where everyone – the birthday girls and the tons of guests who showed up were all dancing with wild abandon. Just for a night, we chose not to think of paper deadlines, midterms, our job, or whatever it is stressing out the typical college student.
I remember pausing just for a split second, long enough for me too look around astonished. “How incredibly fitting this song is for the night,” was the thought in my head.
For this song is an acknowledgment of life, of happiness, of joyful moments and all things good. It encompasses the past, the present, and what is yet to come. It’s an acknowledgement that we don’t need to look hard, far or wide to find something in our lives worth celebrating. It’s so simple yet I hate to admit it, but sometimes I forget that.
In any event, I’m so thankful I have this song to help me capture the moment of pure bliss and remember it forever. The fact that I get to share it with someone is even better!

About The Curator - Jordan Yutan
Jordan finds joy in simple things like brunch, naps on the grass, and long car rides with the music on high. Her version of fun consists of dance parties, movie marathons and – of course – karaoke. Music has been such a key part in shaping her spirituality. She believes the first time she felt God reaching out to her was through a song and that still happens time and time again. She sees music as a vessel to vulnerability and will gladly invite anyone to listen, but especially wants to hear the songs in their own hearts. She dreams of visiting cafés all across the world, and meeting all kinds of people over a cup of coffee. But for now, she’s making the most out of college, soaking up the sun in her beautiful campus of UC Santa Barbara.
