Imagine yourself a dimly lit, smoke filled speakeasy, ripped leather booth (stuffing exposed), and a neat glass of warm bourbon in hand… enter “The Chaw”. A Brooding, sulky, psychedelic blues rock band with a rattlesnake bite, desert vibe. Hailing from the California, East Bay area, 3 of the 4 members; Jeff (Vocals, Bass), Joe (Drums), & Jarrod (Guitar), went to the same high school in Walnut Creek, a city situated in the valley just west of Mount Diablo, which they named a song after on their first LP - https://thechaw.bandcamp.com/track/mount-diablo Later meeting Stephen (Guitar), at a church in 06’. Enough background about these fine gentlemen, let’s get to the song.
Uncertain of the exact lyrics (I couldn’t find them listed anywhere), I’m not sure I know exactly what this piece is about, but then again, this is just “like my opinion man”. Being close to the Pacific and lyrics referencing the sea, maybe Stephen’s a WAV.e shredder on multiple levels.
Displaying patience in choosing the right wave/making the right life decisions. A long the way doing your best to brace from the inexorable surge of life’s pitfalls. In the end, inevitably beaten by time, you return to dust… What could you in the next life.
“Now anything you think of
Anything you dream of
What could you become
If you return to me
Dust, Dust, Dust what could you be…”
