Lyrically, the song’s a seekers utopia as much as it is a mid-evil torcher device.
Do you endure on an epic, never-ending quest in pursuit of answer to all things life?
“We scale the face of reason
To find at least one sign
That could reveal the true dimension
Of life, lest we forget.”
Or just sit back and take what’s given to you in a more fatalistic fashion?
“And maybe it's easier to withdraw from life
With all of its misery and wretched lies
Away from harm”
Dead Can Dance is Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry. Gerrard with her powerful, yet ethereal, operatic, non-linguistic approach, counters Perry’s deep, philosophical transcending words of wisdom.
While polar opposites in terms of lyrical stylings, they come together to create otherworldly magic like no other.
