I believe in a little thing called love.
Love that transcends all other mediums. Love that seemingly comes out of nowhere, but has a familiar scent. Earth shattering, time altering, aura vibrating love that radiates pure joy and happiness. Love that permeates every perfect flaw, illuminates every shadowed doubt, comforts every anxious thought, releases every fear. Love that just IS, without agenda or expectations.
There comes a point in your life where you meet that love. I’m talking about love so powerful that it scares you – hits you in the core and forces you to take an honest look at yourself, often drawing out dark, repressed past fears and insecurities.
We all deserve this type of love in our life. A lot of the times, this type of love is fleeting, undiscoverable… and when you think you’ve found it, it comes crashing down as if there was no love there in the first place. One way or another, we’ve all been there – hopeless, afraid, terrified, and yearning for that promised love.
“Someone to Stay” perfectly contains the raw emotion that is felt during these intense encounters of pure love and, more often than not, the lack-thereof. These experiences in our lives shape us much more than we realize. Past heartbreak, whether than be from a partner, a parent, or a friend, roots itself deep in our subconscious. “Can you keep me close, can you love me most” echoes throughout the song. The distress gives me chills every-time I hear the phrase. I can hear someone who had only known pain throughout their life, and doesn’t know how to receive the type of love they deserve. And when they happen to stumble upon it, they are so terrified it will leave them that it swallows their soul whole.
It’s only when we journey inward to look at what causes this distress when we can break the cycle of self inflicted damage that enables our souls to be ready for the type of love we deserve. The journey inward is painful, messy, but it’s only something a brave few willingly do in order to transform themselves for the better.
If you’re ready to start your journey, or wherever you may be along your path, give this song a listen. Prepare yourself for the love you don’t even know you’re ready to receive.
