Humans are community creatures. We get somewhere we like and where we’re accepted and we stay there for as long as we consciously can. We want to feel like we belong. I personally have found it in my religion, certain video game communities, teams i’ve been on, etc. It’s a great thing, and a part of human nature.
The only problem I have is when people find somewhere they fit and do one of 2 things. 1) Ignore all the flaws of the community so they can be oblivious and stay within that acceptance; or 2) attack other communities whether it be because they disagree with theirs or because they believe their community is better. All communities, including those I find myself in, have people like this unfortunately, but some more than others.
While of course you want to defend your community or show pride in it, let’s remember exactly what the community is about. If it is about harming others just being a general jerk, maybe, just maybe, look into a different one? I am interested in politics, have been for years, but when it becomes less about debating what would best serve the people and more about people acting as though they’re cheering for a football team and the other team are bloodsucking monsters… I check out a little. I hope you have found or find a place where you’re accepted… just don’t lose your humanity.
