Sometimes it can be hard to let things go. Whether it’s people, relationships, plans, or anything else, letting something go can be one of the most difficult things we as humans do. Change scares people, and they’d rather stay exactly where they are in life than go through a major shift, even if that shift end up being beneficial in the long run.
What if it turns out worse than it is now? What if what you let go never comes back? Questions upon questions fill the mind and you start to be unable to fathom a world where you lose what you had and things turn out alright. Knowing whatever it was is gone forever, knowing all the good it brought it’s taking with it as it exits your life for good. No matter how small or insignificant it is, letting anything go is letting some part of you go as well.
There’s no way to stop most of that. The doubts, the fears; they’ll come. Letting something go and inviting change is one of the bravest things we as people can do. So many times, though, we hold on for no other purpose than not to let go, many times not even aware that we’re gripping so tightly to such dead weight. Too often we forget that we’ll still have the memories, still have the experiences, that the past doesn’t change. Saying goodbye, however painful, can be done, even by me, and even by you.
