My oh my how time flies. Track 15 already.
Monster Magnet are a great band. I have yet to listen to their most recent album, which I hear is great, but I plan to spend this coming weekend doing just that. They're a kind of enigma. Like last weeks featured track-wranglers Electric Six, they've got a sense of humor about themselves. In music land, having a sense of humor about yourself can often mean death, or worse: being seen as some kind of novelty band. In Metal land, where our Monstrous and Magnety heroes reside, that probability increases exponentially. It goes through the roof in fact. Just ask GWAR. But they of the Monstery Magnet seem to laugh in the face of that particular worn out trope to impressive effect.
Just like I did with Electric Six last week, I want Monster Magnet on this list. So I've had to fabricate a reason for including them. That reason is long winded, it's contrived. Nonsensical silliness at beast; Cynical, Orwellian double-think at worst. But in a post-truth world you should have learned to deal with that already. Or else get off the internet.
The reason that I have is this reason: The Deadpool Video Game.
People hated it.
I loved it.
Monster Magnet aren't on the soundtrack. They're on the Road Rash soundtrack, but I'll probably save that for the day I want some soundgarden on the list.
Negasonic Teenage Warhead is the name of a Monster Magnet song of their classic “Dopes to Infinity” album. Someone writing for Marvel liked the song so god-damned much that they borrowed the name for one of their X-men characters. This makes sense because Monster Magnet songs are full of reference to Marvel characters( supposedly). So it was a nice way of tipping the official corporate comic-book fedora to Dave Wyndorf, MonsterMagnet's commander in chief and die-hard comic book aficionado.
Negasonic Teenage Warhead got associated with Deadpool at some point? Maybe? I suppose. I don't know. I don't read much comics. But she was in the film that came out not too long ago so there's that.
So let's recap. Monster Magnet have a song. Marvel named a character after that song. Character turns up in Deadpool film. Deadpool as has a video game. I like Space Lord.
Space Lord is this weeks featured track.
You're welcome.
P.S. Going to see these guys in a few weeks. Will report back.
