When something is born it has its own pace, rhythm, truth. Given the time and opportunity to be itself, it will thrive. When in this space, it speaks to us completely, only giving, sharing without want. It is intensely beautiful and moving, it is exquisite.
Perfectly executed, Nick Cave has felt the truth of this exceptional piece, leaving out all the things which oppose its nature.
Beautiful and compelling, it seems that Nick Cave is having a spiritual experience, without want to skew or alter that frequency, he expresses this prayer directly to us as it has come to him, potent and pure the tenderness felt is warm and touching. His ability to feel and express himself so completely, so directly, is genius. We have gained much from his pursuit in exploring, feeling, expressing and performing.
I knew I wanted a Nick Cave song this week for feeling, and truth. I started listening to The Boatman’s Call album. I was 17 when the album was released and at the time I was well practiced in ignoring my feelings, and as a result did not know myself at all. Nick Cave really caught me of guard with this song, piercing my armor for long enough to feel the beauty of the song, his voice, the words, the piano. It is a warm memory. 20 years later, with these memories around me and the album playing outside in the open air, as if on cue, the weather turns dark and stormy, drama building, wind spinning up high in the trees, the last bit of sun colouring the dark clouds to a strange violet, to twilight, to night. The sky has slipped into a well tailored jacket, dark eyes and a deep expressive voice, a promise of something exciting and mysterious.
A truth, the heart knows unconditional love, patience and acceptance, given the opportunity to just be itself, it will show us.
If I want or need you to be a particular way to love you, does that mean I have to be a particular way too? Can I just be me, can you just be you? Into my arms, can I accept myself, can I direct myself into my arms?
Can I give myself the time to feel my heart at its own pace, just to feel and be?
But I believe in love, and I know that you do too.
