Okay, I know, country probably isn’t a genre you would willingly listen to. BUT HEAR ME OUT. This song. This song is the 2020 equivalent to Before He Cheats. The exception to the country music genre. And being someone who enjoys country music, this song slaps.
I came across this song on Tik Tok. It was a trend for a hot minute. I enjoyed the small portion of the song so much I looked it up and immediately added it to my personal playlist. When I started this playlist, I knew it needed to be included.
At 23, there is a lot of life I feel behind on. I haven’t been in a relationship, haven’t been on a date. I’ve never been truly drunk (I don’t plan on doing that though). I’ve barely experienced partying or going out to bars and clubs (I’ll blame the pandemic on this one though). I’ve had friends comment on my life saying I’m more “immature” and less “experienced” because of the choices I have, or have not, made. Those words, being told I’m “immature” and still basically a “child” because I haven’t done things hurts. It pulls me down and disregards my other achievements and successes. I have a Bachelor’s Degree, and am in the process of getting a Masters. I have moved 2500 miles from home, alone. I have made some lifelong friendships. I’ve seen choices others made and the consequences they faced, and decided to make a different choice.
So why does it matter what I do or do not take part in? There isn’t a set timeline I have to follow. The only person I have to please is myself. I have to make sure I’m happy and living the life I want to live. This song is one big F-you to the people thinking they have a right to decide what you can or cannot do. Do whatever makes you happy.
