Rules? Fuck ’em!
Generally – as a rule – the tracks you find on this playlist don’t have lyrics – the reasoning being that if you’re writing – you don’t need someone else’s words taking up cognitive space. But it’s not really a rule – it’s more of a “best practice” – at the end of the day, tracks make this list if I’m able to write to them and wow – look at me typing…
I’m loving this track – sure my mind goes to the vocal hook – “I can’t let you know this – I’m never going to be the same” – and that’s making connections in my head but – the beauty of such a simple hook is that I’m quickly familiar with it and as the track starts grooving deeper, all I’m interested in is riding the ever growing momentum as ideas form, shape and express themselves through my fingers.
All tracks on this list work on repeat – the more I listen the more familiar the music becomes – I can anticipate how the groove moves and my brain rewards my knowledge with dopamine hits – it’s like chasing the dragon only this time you keep catching it – feels so good.
Where some tracks on the list are sonic sandboxes – safe spaces that have little influence on the end product – tracks like Polyphonic – with its insistent percussive back beat (hello drummer!) and ever growing groove – infect my writing – increasing the word count and indeed words per minute. It’s the perfect soundtrack for someone getting back into the writing game – definitely worth taking out for a spin.
