Do you ever wonder why we do this? By "We" I mean Music Curators - people who show up every week and write about a track and share it out to the world? We do it for tracks like this - for people like Joonas Widenius.
Of course you're probably sitting there going - "hang on - I thought you did it for me - to help me write my essay" and while yes, that's true - we've always had an ulterior motive. You see - here at Music to we are in the business of building audiences - audiences of writers, of procrastinators, of grievers, of conquerors, lots of different audiences - and when the audience is big enough - we start to attract new music!
Now while it's true that the majority of music submitted through the site isn't ready for publishing - every now and then you come across something brilliant and all the effort becomes worth it.
This is a gnarly ass track - the musicianship is out of the park and the whole vibe is well - here's how Joonas puts it:
You should totally take it out for a spin.
You can check Joonas out at the links below but here's his artist bio:
Joonas Widenius evokes the idea of being one of Europe's most interesting famenco jazz guitarists nowadays. However, he is – and he is a wonderful example how many young European musicians think, live and work meanwhile they create the soundtrack of today's Europe, and today's globalized world. Widenius was born in 1980 in Tornio in Northern Finland, and he still loves the solitude and nature of Lapland where he often spends time to get inspiration for new music. But instead of just following his northern roots and putting those tradition-inspired tunes into a new contemporary livery, Widenius does something pretty unexpected: He uses technique and styles of Spanish flamenco to ride on his nordic melodies whereby he created a new style. And it is the perfect example of the soundtrack of today! It is a konspirazy of styles. It combines Finnish and Spanish traditions with rock, jazz – and Finnish flamenco.

About the Curator: Andrew McCluskey
The first visual memory I have is that of the white upright piano in Singapore, Hell and the dark forces lived at the bottom, Heaven and the Angels at the top. They would play battles through my fingers and I was hooked.
Although I've always played, I haven't always been a musician. Most of my twenties were spent working with people, buying and selling and learning how the world works. It was in my thirties that I came to America and focused on music and began to develop music2work2.

But as I’ve moved from ideation to manifestation, the energy of the playlist needed to change – solo piano is good for thinking – but 8 minutes of 130 bpm edm is great for getting things down

So if you’ve been listening to the playlist recently you know what’s coming. Last week’s track was all about setting the intent for change – away from the more relaxing ideation space of solo instrumentation to this week’s electronic track from Cristoph, Yotto and Sansa.

I’ve known for a while that the feel of the list was going to change – while piano instrumentals are perfect for reflection and ideation – at some point you need some energetic input to get your fingers moving.
