Andrew
OK – so songs that make you feel good in the moment and afterward – in the “love song” / “:ballad” space? I know what I’m starting with – here you go Marija – let’s see where we go…
What Can I Do (But Love You) – Joy Williams
Marija
Such a sweet, lovely song!
I simply had to put ‘Baby’, it will probably always be one of my favourite songs, and it fits our vibe so nicely
Baby – Donnie & Joe Emerson
I love it! 🙂 I so wanted to go with Aretha Franklin’s A Natural Woman – but thought maybe bring it forward a wee bit – you’re up :-p
Finally // beautiful stranger- Halsey
Not usually a big fan of Halsey, but I absolutely enjoyed this one 😊
She reminded me Sean Nicholas Savage, they have a unique sound to their voice, like the one where you instantly recognise who is singing
Abracadabra – Sean Nicholas Savage
I was grooving on the keys so hard – loved the positioning and of course the vocal – it was such a grooving upbeat track – really loved it
i went down the piano road and came back with a track that had me falling in love with a band – have now seen them several times – starts off a little spooky but unfolds into one of my favorite lyrics on love and marriage.
A Little Bit Of Everything – Dawes
I can see what you mean with starting a bit spooky, didn’t really know which direction is gonna go to, but loved the lyrics, really enjoyed that 🙂
I switched to some lovely guitar playing with equally lovely lyrics
Cannock Chase Labi Siffre
You would laugh if you knew how much time I’ve spent with the Labi Siffre – it is driving me mad! 😛 I know there is song that is perfect to follow it – it’s in my brain but it is singularly elusive and yes – it’s driving me mad – Maria was staying here this weekend and spent hours on Friday night trading tracks around it and while they were all great – It’s not the one that I want. I’ve just had it on repeat for the last 30 minutes – so – please know that it is sitting at the front of my mind and I’m going to have something – something today (hopefully!) – thank you for helping my crazy – hope you’re grooving!
So clearly I was over thinking it 😛 . tyhe track that was perfect for it was a 30 minute track from an early genesis album – took me days to make the connection – only to realize that it didn’t fit the theme and adding a 30 minute epic isn’t exactly polite when making this kind of list 😛 I realized I was hung up on the front of the track so changed my focus to the back end and then freed myself from the genre connection – was rummaging through a list of semi romantic tracks that I’d been grooving on and I just felt something about the transition and the shift to a more upbeat feel – i.e. – not so heavy and deep and more irreverent but still authentic.
So – my apologies for how long this took – but – thank you for sending me down rabbit holes – :-p
Honey I Been Thinking About You Jackie Greene
haha sorry it was such a struggle! but, I guess, there’s beauty in the challenge as well 🙂 I tend to overthink sometimes too and it drives me crazy, so I usually in those situations go with my first choice 🙂
I’m quite glad you didn’t go with a 30 min epic haha even though I trust its a great song. We can do at some point a “longer than 5 minutes playlist’ and just shove a bunch of epic longer songs in there haha 😃
I like the casualness of the song you put, its simple and sweet, with Bob Dylan vibes which I love.
I choose the whole wide world cover track, even tho I prefer the original from Wreckless Eric, but I felt like the cover was more fitting.
Whole Wide World Bahamas
Heh! Great cover – shifting vibes again – you’re up :-p
Man I’m Supposed to Be American Aquarium
Heeeello! Sorry for the wait, I wanted to catch up on all my collabs before my holiday, but didnt get a chance to in the end. I went to beautiful Barcelona with my boyfriend, What a gorgeous, wonderful city, absolutely looooved it.
and as for American Aqauarium, the song gave me such Bruce Springsteen vibes, if I didnt know the artists name, I’d definitely say its a song by “The Boss” haha. really enjoyed it 🙂 almost immediately the first song that come to mind to follow was the lovely Stick with me
Stick With Me Baby Robert Plant
I hope we get to make lists together for years – you assist my ears 😎
😄 absolute pleasure! And let’s do it!!
am clearly overthinking the track again 😛 I’ll get there
Heh! I love the music that Alison Krauss and Robert Plant make together – i was so tied into the harmonies and went down a few rabbit holes but the majority of the tracks I love in that space tend to more desolation than upbeat 😛 settled on a compromise :-p.
Blood Bank Bon Iver
In Ear Park Department Of Eagles
I’m struggling – in my own mind – over the framing of this list – ‘cos initially I thought it was ballads and love songs – but I look at what I wrote in the description of the list and it’s “Tracks that as you listen to and afterwards make you feel good” and I think I’ve been trying to deliver both the idea of a love song and the feel good thing and – heh – I’m realizing they’re – at least in my mind – two different things. Like a ballad is one thing – a love song – the Joy Williams being a trad example of that – yet – to my ears anyway 😛 – your tracks a challenge what the typical interpretation of that can be – and I fucking love it.
The cover of Ear Park couldn’t be said to be a classic ballad but damn if it isn;’t about love and you do feel good after it and I’m stoked that I now know the track ;-p.
I think the list so far is super interesting and lets def keep it rolling – I’m going to slightly adjust my perspective to move more towards to the ballad that makes you feel good rather than ballad that is all about love – if that’s cool with you.
Sending you the grooves – and – from one of my favorite LA indie bands – you’re up!
Chinatown Girlpool
heeey! I also was brainstorming for a while, I added and changed about 10 songs until I chose finally In Ear Park haha. The melody is just hypnotizing, isn’t it.
I know what you mean by the framing of the list, although in my mind a love song and feel-good mood can definitely be in one song 🙂 of course in many cases they are separate, and in our case, the songs do deviate a bit from our description. But I love it! haha I usually go with what feels good and that sometimes misses the main point, or as you say challenges the typical interpretation, but if you are loving it, that just makes me super happy 😄
So your track reminded me soooooo much of The breeders and their track Do you love me now? Have a listen to it if you want, I initially wanted to put that one but because it was again all about love I chose to go in a different direction 😊
Getting Gone Mutual Benefit
I remember talking about the wonderful Elliott Smith and the thirteen track in our last playlist making 😊 such a nice cover.
I already found my next one with easy decision making this time, as soon as I saw it I put it 💫
I Don’t Know Beastie Boys
I love that Beastie Boys track – had never heard it before but it’s just great 🙂 I knew exactly what was going on next (for a change ;-p) – listening to the Breeders track now – and falling down their catalog rabbit hole!
You’re up!
Talk Tonight Oasis
Amazing 😊
I wanted to go with a different Brian Eno track; I’ll Come Running becuse I liked the idea of a happier, upbeat tone, but went instead with On some Faraway Beach. And I’m still considering changing but I will stick to it 😁
On Some Faraway Beach – 2004 Digital Remaster Brian Eno
Loved the Brian Eno track – cool them warm jets indeed 😛. I was feeling a little quirky afterwards and well – .. 😛. you’re up
Face Like Summer Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci
Enjoyed the quirkiness 😊
I went with a track I discovered recently and can’t get enough of it 😊
Venetian Screens CCFX
loved the CCFX track – bass line had me running around my head – came up with a classic 🙂
You get the last track! :-p
Lovesong – 2010 Remaster The Cure
When Will You Come Home Galaxie 500
