"Lost In Yesterday" is one of my favorite songs off Tame Impala's new 2020 album, Slow Rush. The anthem's psychedelic pop style complements the vibe of an outdoor picnic very well. Not only does the track have solid vocals and a spectacular groove, but Tame Impala (AKA. Kevin Parker) also expresses a powerful message about memories. Kevin Parker himself produced the addicting instrumental, which is one of his strengths as a musician. I love the dreamlike atmosphere that the synths create and the punchy rhythm from the bass guitar and drums. Kevin also sprinkles a variety of different sounds throughout the track for a psychedelic aesthetic, which works perfectly.
Additionally, Tame Impala's lyrics about embracing your past and leaving it behind is something that strongly resonates with me. I used to always wallow in past mistakes and regrets. But, healthy habits like meditation have taught me to appreciate the present moment. So, this song reinforces my mindset of acknowledging my past, but also recognizing that it doesn't define who I am today. Kevin Parker delivers this vital message with poetic lyrics and an angelic voice, which only makes it resonate with his fans more. Overall, "Lost in Yesterday" is an awesome trifecta of thoughtful lyrics, sweet musical production, and heavenly vocals—a perfect track selection for a picnic on a sunny day.
