Ladies and gentlemen, The New Mastersounds. You cannot have the last 20 years of good-gritty-soul-funk music without them. They hold it down. They belong on this playlist. It's an ambitious task to choose one song from their abundant discography, but alas Yo Mamma is a prime showcase of the type of funk this band cooks up on the regular.
First off, they're cuttin' to tape. Second, you're hearing a band with a lasting musical bond. It's a consistent and refined groove pocket that's been established here. You can breath it in. Recognize the balance individuality and influence. Aside from the overall sound and feel, this is a cool little love song that bumps along with group shout lyrics and swagger on full blast. Cheers to these four musicians who are in full command of what they do. Heroes. Turn it up, move, and love!
