It’s the not knowing that kills – and not just you, but your loved ones too as you can’t articulate and are forced to watch as they project and hurt.
When I’m here I’m not looking for understanding – for a solution – I know neither exist – I’m looking for company – for someone who’s misery matches mine. But I don’t want to be a dick about it – I don’t wish misfortune on another just to appease my sorry state – I’ll take whatever’s out there.
If sadness is a feeling – is a groove – is indeed a state of mind – then what better to evoke it than a heavily reverbed piano supporting plaintive vocals, backed by sombre strings and subtle harmonies? Nothing – that’s what. Right from the opening bars – you know where this track’s headed…
Although the message here is not mine, the sentiment is very much what I’m looking for. If I internalize the words and interpret a battle with myself – you might externalize and hear something else – something Sophoclean perhaps – the artist knows but he’s not telling – just yet anyway.
And while I’m not necessarily looking for hope, there’s a certain truism to how the track ends:
“Don’t feel bad, don’t say sorry, there’s always another day
Don’t feel bad, don’t say sorry, there’s always another day.”
Today was another day and I felt good enough to write this.
Thank you Jamie
