In the early 2000's, (a.k.a the post boy band era) Justin Timberlake was looking to make a name for himself as well as to make the transition from teen heart throb to adult solo pop star.
On November 5, 2002, Timberlake's debut album "Justified" was released. In early 2003, Timberlake was already riding off of the success of the first two singles from the album ("Like I Love You", "Cry Me A River") with the latter being the most successful of the two.
On April 8, 2003, when the third single from the album "Rock Your Body" was released, it debuted at #1 on the U.S. Mainstream Top 40 chart and at #7 on the U.S. Rhythmic Billboard Chart as well as in the top 10 various other countries. The single was also certified gold in New Zealand, The United Kingdom and The U.S. and two times platinum in Australia.
It has been said that the track was originally written and produced for Michael Jackson of which Jackson respectfully declined. This track has a nice, smooth, upbeat, disco-funk pop feel to it sprinkled with that Michael Jackson-esque touch. A handful of diehard Justin Timberlake fans would probably say that this is one of the finest tunes of his catalogue but I say that it is timeless and is still a great track to hear Timberlake perform live.
People are still partying to this song which is essentially the true mark of an artist - to be able to make someone feel incredible in spectacular fashion- which I think is a quality that can't easily be replicated simply because not everybody has that value.
Us Justin Timberlake fans young and old alike know that he has this musical trait and "Rock Your Body" is one of many songs that we are able to identify such a trait within. Bottom line is that Justin makes excellent music and quite honestly I think you'll have a hard time making a conscious effort not to dance to it. Now get out there and get to rocking!
