This is a track about the celebration of life - particularly about coming of age, letting loose and having fun- as is the event of transitioning to adulthood.
The track begins with Jackson engaging in a brief spoken word piece before ricocheting into the beautiful, majestic and funky blend that is this finely crafted timeless classic. It was produced at a time when Jackson's solo career was just starting to take off. The song was officially released as a single on July 28, 1979 and is featured as the opening track on Jackson's 1979 album "Off The Wall". It eventually became an international success spending six weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard Soul charts respectively. Additionally, it received gold and platinum plaque certifications due to strong sales.
As a child of the 90's, I would listen to this track and dance a lot and as I got older I would frequently revisit it when I came of age citing it as an excuse to accommodate my transition into a man.

I must say that this transition has definitely been an emotional roller-coaster, but it is songs like these that have helped me to get through it.
