This week, Brent Faiyaz makes it onto the playlist with his smooth R&B track Rehab (Winter In Paris). Faiyaz uses his addictive and sultry voice combined with a dark moody guitar beat to create an atmospheric vibe, perfect for the end of October.
Relatively new to the music world, Faiyaz has trademarked his jazzy voice within the R&B genre. He has become a stable in various playlists of mine and has yet to release a “lazy” or “bad” track. All of his production and attention to detail within his projects have been consistently impressive.
Rehab (Winter in Paris) discusses Faiyaz’s relationship with a girl who is addicted to drugs. Although she is demonizing herself and creating obstacles for her own personal growth, Faiyaz still shows her love as he is undeniably caught in her lust. She is described as venomous with sexual desire and amazing when shes with him.
The song is addicting, beautiful, and simplistically amazing. R&B that focuses on women and sex is oftentimes repetitive and overplayed, but Brent does a great job of putting his own spin on otherwise worn out lyrics. His voice serves as the most important instrument and that is what will propel him to stardom compared to other artists.
