This week's track is a chill, jazzy hip hop track from LA-based producer and musician Kiefer. Now releasing music on Stones Throw Records, he studied jazz under Kenny Burrell at UCLA. While there, he started to see how he could connect the beat-making he had been honing since age 12 with jazz piano.
The track, from his 2018 album "Happysad" starts with a hook and develops into a short improvisation before settling back into that hook. Kiefer's chill beats and soothing production will have you floating on a cloud, "Thinkin of" whatever - or whoever - may be on your mind. Kiefer says of his album: "Making Happysad helped me to feel better when I was struggling. When I made these songs I tried to imagine a crowd of anxious people like myself - they were listening to the music with me and I was reaching out and hugging them. I hope this sentiment is projected through the record, and I hope Happysad helps somebody...I want Happysad to act as a reminder: be encouraged and encourage others."
