Solange, Beyonce's sister, released this track on her third album, entitled "A Seat at the Table," released in 2016. Although she had been an artist for many years before, this album has allowed Solange to connect with a wider audience. The track is soulful and groovy, sentimental yet hopeful. The lush strings, tight drums, and relatable lyrics make "Cranes in the Sky" a perfect opening track for the Music to Forget Your Troubles playlist.
The track builds slowly from start to finish, with some piano and harp throughout. The slick production by Raphael Saadiq provides enough open space to meditate on Solange's lyrics about her attempts to distract herself from problems, an experience to which everyone can relate.
