Jesse Boykins III is a Jamaican-American producer and singer-songwriter. His first album was released in 2008, and he signed to Def Jam in 2017. He released his latest album, “Bartholomew” in December 2017. “B4 the Night is Thru” is from his 2014 release, “Love Apparatus.”
On this soulful electronic track, Jesse Boykins expresses the nervousness any one of us may feel when approaching a new love interest: “I’m talking to myself, working up the nerve/ to stay at arm’s length, so I could be heard.” Over a simple four-on-the-floor beat, accompanied by synth bass, the track gradually builds up with syncopated ride cymbal and percussion patterns. His vocals are delivered in almost a whisper, yet he evokes a quiet confidence, knowing that his choice “will be the one.”

About the Curator, Caitlin Moss:
Drum set player and percussionist Caitlin Moss was born and raised in Los Angeles. She has performed at such venues as the Skirball Center and the Ford Amphitheatre and has toured nationally and internationally, including performances in Mexico and Cuba, with Grammy-winning bands La Santa Cecilia and Quetzal. She performs and records in Los Angeles as a freelance musician and as a member of several original bands. Caitlin is also teaching drum set, percussion, piano, and music production classes at a youth arts center operated by the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs.
