To escape isnʼt to run away. To escape is to allow the mind a vacation, space to relax and recalibrate. Those with a healthy appreciation of the fantastical are better able to handle the material, and if travel broadens the mind, just imagine what unbridled escapism can do!
Music to Escape Reality is the cinematic score to your psychological journey. Each piece of music has been chosen for the richness of its auditory landscape, the vividness with which it depicts the rolling planes of the imagination, and for its potential to guide you as you suspend disbelief.
This playlist is a portal to disengage with what is real and explore the infinite unknown, because to escape isnʼt to run away.
To escape is to be free.
All These Eggs & Only One Basket
14 February 2021
What makes a good artist? I think this is a much more helpful question than its more popular counterpart, ‘what makes good art?’
Sense & Sensitivity
13 February 2021
I’ve long been fascinated by the acknowledgement of internalized negativity, by the idea that the authors of the narratives we grow up believing are not necessarily the Pulitzer prize-winners we assume them to be.
Shifting Sands
13 February 2021
Keeping a level head in the face of potential rejection. Oooh what a thorny topic this will be!
Peaceful Moments
12 January 2021
The idea of having something beautiful and profoundly yours ripped away from you is probably the one thing that terrifies anyone in my position more than anything else.
Pressure Vessels
20 December 2020
This is a bit of a mess of a piece. Think of it as a stream of consciousness, an examination of the pieces of thoughts that lie scattered about the ol’ mindscape.
Safe Harbour
24 November 2020
I think we all like feeling like we have a sanctuary that we can safely say is ‘ours’, a secure base from which we can derive a sense of consistency and control in spite of all the other uncertainty the world can and will offer us.
A Thousand Roads
8 October 2020
When I think about what I want in life, it all points toward quite a simple vision really. I think getting this pinned down has been one of the main reasons why I felt so lost throughout my late teens and early twenties.
Existential Crisis
9 September 2020
Since I’m in the middle of trying to figure out how I can incorporate my playlist into my increasingly-elaborate project, I figured I’d simply drop some tracks that I can’t stop listening to at the moment.
Enter Shikari — THE GREAT UNKNOWN Album Review
9 May 2020
My love for Enter Shikari by no means unconditional, and I certainly don’t love everything they release unquestioningly. It took me a VERY long time to appreciate The Spark, and there isn’t a single album of theirs where I like every single song.
New Sky – RÜFÜS DU SOL
17 February 2020
And so we’re leaving our little moon for a New Sky. As Himalia crumbles and falls apart around us, we depart for our new home.
Nightwalk – Spencer Brown
3 February 2020
And so I get up, leave my room, head out onto the rooftops. I’ve done this a lot lately. A Nightwalk to calm my troubled soul.
5 Things I Wish I’d Known When I Started My Music Career
17 January 2020
We live in a truly unique time to be musicians. The internet has so dramatically altered the landscape that those who dominated the horizon as recently as a decade ago barely recognise it anymore. I cut my teeth on the music scene back when the social utility of the internet was barely more than a few MySpace pages and MSN screen names, and it was common knowledge that the only way to ‘make it’ in this business was to land a major record deal. To put it simply, it was the kind of pursuit that was regarded as little more than an airy pipe dream, and to believe otherwise was to be very foolish indeed…
