‘Amsterdam’ is the third song of Sofia Valdés’ debut EP Ventura. Although this song is not about our mutual university city (I am at the University of Liverpool and Sofia is at LIPA), it has been the soundtrack of my week. Inspired by Brazilian music, Motown, and Soul, Sofia has a beautifully unique approach to her songwriting and singing. I didn’t manage to catch any of her gigs last year, but I have my fingers (and toes) crossed that she will be back in Liverpool for some live shows later this year. I’ll be sure to let you know if I do!

Hey, I’m Lizzy! I am a Music and Law student at the University of Liverpool. I am passionate about maintaining artistic integrity in an increasingly commercialised industry, particularly for young and inexperienced female artists. My aim is to develop, promote and encourage women in music. I enjoy a variety of music genres. If I had to pick a favourite, it would have to be R&B/Soul. Jazz also comes into the mix... how could it not?!
