With her heart-wrenching vocals, pristine tone and divine notes, Aretha Franklin is rightfully called the "Queen of Soul." With roots in gospel, she started her secular music career in the early 60s, but didn't really strike gold until the late 60s, with her first #1 "I Never Loved A Man (The Way I Love You)". From that point on, she ruled the charts until the mid-80s with a plethora of unforgettable hits. One of her most popular, chart-topping tracks was "Until You Come Back to Me (That's What I'm Gonna Do)," a song penned by Stevie Wonder, Morris Broadnax and Clarence Paul. She hit #1 on the R&B charts and #3 on Billboard Hot 100.
There is something so pure and otherworldly about this track. Aretha's feathery, yet intense vocals capture the essence of the song and transcend it. This is not only audio nectar at its finest, it's a spiritual feast. Carrying the sweet aroma of 70s limitless freedom and unfettered innocence, this 1973 release is one of the best songs of the 70s. It represents the decade, but is a timeless wonder appropriate for any era.
