Three Dog Night, originally known as Redwood, started up in the late 1960s and are still going strong today. They have 11 studio albums and string of chart-topping hits under their belt, including "Mama Told Me Not to Come," "Joy to the World" and "Black and White." Like The Guess Who, they have a American rock sound with inspirational lyrics and a multicolored tones and a long run at the top of the charts. "Out in the Country" isn't one of their most popular songs, but it's a signature 70s tune that's sweet, innocent and embraces nature.
Written by the brilliant and prolific Paul Williams, "Out in the Country" peaked at 11 on the US adult contemporary chart and 15 on Billboard's chart in 1970. From Three Dog Night's It Ain't Easy album, it brings to mind long country roads, wind blowing through the hair and soft, golden sunlight. It epitomizes the 70s in that it has residual 60s environmental consciousness, a happy-go-lucky vibe and a non-disco sound. Three Dog Night had plenty of hits, but if you dig deeper in their catalog, some real gems like this one can be found.
