The movie Saturday Night Fever set the world and dance floors on fire. Comprised of shake-your-body-down-to-the-ground songs as well as heart-wrenching ballads, it has one of the best-selling soundtracks of all time. One of the most exquisite songs from the double-album, which was released in 1977, is "More Than a Woman," which has two renditions on the soundtrack, one by Tavares, the other by the Bee Gees. Both are sexy and sinewy, but the Bee Gees version is particularly potent because of how it's utilized in the film, in one of the most iconic scenes in cinema history.
Like many disco songs from the 70s, "More Than a Woman" combined lush orchestration and dance beats, a captivating combination. This song is sensual yet innocent, joyous yet sad. It encapsulates all that made the 70s special.
