The spectrum of love themes was covered in 70s music - everything from platonic to self-love was the fabric of many hit songs. Some love songs struck a chord with our collective mindsets and hearts - Maria Muldaur's "Midnight at the Oasis" was one of them. The 1973 hit single was written by award-winning songwriter David Nichtern and featured Native New Yorker Muldaur's captivating vocals, backed by seamless pop-soul instrumentation. It's Muldaur's best known hit and climbed the charts to #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the spring of '74.
While the 80s symbolized Wall Street greed and the fostering of type A personalities, the 70s represented laid-back, positive vibes and simplicity. Grammy-nominated "Midnight at the Oasis" is a sultry tune about a desert love affair. It encapsulates the carefree sexiness of the freewheeling 70s. While it was known as the "Disco Era," the 70s offered so much more than just disco musically. Some of the best music ever created blared from AM and FM radio stations during this time period. "Midnight at the Oasis" is a sensuous offering from the 70s catalog of never-to-be-replicated, genuinely good music.
