The 70s had a lot of soft rock that was tinged with country. Anne Murray was a country singer who was on fire during the decade, having several crossover hits, including "A Love Song," written by Kenny Loggins and Dona Lyn George. This was the second Loggins song she took up the charts. The first one was "Danny's Song," written by Loggins and Jim Messina. The Canadian native topped three singles music charts in Canada with "Love Song" and hit #5 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Singles chart.
The December 1973 release breezed into 1974 as a hit. Murray's dulcet, clean vocals, lush acoustics and gentle lyrics make this a flawless soft rock gem. Like John Denver, Crystal Gayle and Linda Ronstadt, Murray made country palatable to a wide audience. No over-production or bells and whistles. Just a sweet ballad sung with sincerity. It's a testament to what makes certain 70s tunes evergreen.
