If you've read my Bio you'd already know of my love for The Beach Boys - even at primary school when my peers were singing along to the likes of Adam and the Ants and Bronski Beat, I was raiding my Mothers paisley record case and spinning
Brian Wilson and the like....
I recall being sent to Sydney on a Greyhound for Christmas break, with my face hard against the glass watching the white lines fly past me and trying to count them to kill time, suddenly while traveling through the Byron Bay region I was awoken by a surf guitar that rattled the speakers above me in all it's AM awesomeness . It was Apache.
I'm sure the surf sounds have lead me down the garden path to all the flavours and genres I enjoy today - and funny enough Apache and I crossed paths again at my first ever concert.... The Ramones in 1990 at Festival Hall - when it was still acceptable to suck down a cigarette it a concert hall.... Apache faded in and drifted across the punters as the Legends took the stage. A truly amazing few minutes standing in silence awaiting our first one and a half minute track from Joey.
So, I bring you The Shadows, originally written by Jerry Lordan - this amazing instrumental has shaped a big part in my musical road trip and sparked many memories along the way.
