Push just set the tone for what is expected to be a G.O.O.D summer with Kanye produced album Daytona. While his subject matter of the drug dealer lifestyle hasn’t changed, his focus on creating great music hasn’t faltered. The album is barren of hooks giving the essence of hip hop in it’s purest form when a catchy hook wasn’t needed to be a hit. The seven track 21 minute album gives you straight concentrated doses of crack, no filler needed.
The opening track “If You Know You Know” puts Pusha’s perspective of knowing that of lot of the rappers aren’t who they portray themselves to be and gives an introspect into the life of someone who really lived the life most rappers talk about. Push grabs your attention with lines like:
Imagine me do, boy, you could never do what I do, boy
Still, duckin' shit that I did, boy
Niggas in Paris 'fore Hit-Boy
This ain't the same type of hits, boy
Shit can get litter than lit, boy
You don't take these type of risks, boy
'Cause this boy been throwin' that D like Rich Boy
