When you listen to hip hop in the south right now there is a sound that seems to be heard in a lot of the new generation artist. This sound seems to be getting hatted on quite a bit by some that feel hip hop should sound a certain way or be portrayed a particular way. What a lot of them dont realize is this sound has been around in the south long before the generation and artist they try to give the credit to and has been done very well on top of that.
When you hear that choppy rap style that so many seem to hate on now most of the time now it gets credited to some of the more popular artist of this current time. But really a rap group from Memphis, Tennessee started this amazing sound back in 1991. When Three 6 Mafia hit the scene it was different than anything that ever hit wax. I feel this track gives you a good taste of what hip hop in the south was like back then and what the swag. You will be able to hear the influence it had on today's southern hip hop and where the sound comes from. Click play kick back and take a ride through true southern hip hop.
