In the early 70’s the sound of Philadelphia was all the rage and along with bands like the O’Jays, The Stylistics were at the forefront. They had a sugary sound that didn’t always appeal to me – songs like “Betcha By Golly Wow” for instance - but I absolutely LOVE this song – this full length version’s great!

Nearly all their hits were lush ballads featuring the falsetto voice of Russell Tomkins Jr. - think of “You Make Me Feel Brand New” - but they also hit the charts with a great upbeat number “I Can’t Give You Anything But My Love.” “People Make The World Go Round” is truly the sound of the 70’s and a great chill-out. Trust me!

About the Curator: Richard Parsons

I grew up listening to music from the late 60’s onwards. Pirate pop radio; swapping LP’s with friends; exploring genres; daydreaming over the latest woofer and tweeter.

In reality I spent thirty years imparting imperfect knowledge of English literature and drama to young minds in school. Regrets? No. I loved teaching; loved the interaction with the pupils, and made lifelong friends as a result. And what better way to keep up to date with music? I always played stuff in my lessons, and as a result, I’d be bombarded with suggestions from my flock! “Sir! Have you heard…?”
