I remember hearing this song for the first time. It was during a time when the radio stations were dominated by artist from New York or California and hip hop was a lot about how they flowed over the beat and delivery. I remember not liking this track the first time I heard it also.
Not because it wasn't a good record but because of how this guy flowed his verses on it. It was very odd to me since at the time the south was still heavy on music from other regions. His flow was very different and delivery like nothing I heard before. But what I remember more was the gas attendant that was blasting it and how she danced around to it when I heard it. It made me go back and listen again once I got home and figured out what the song was. And all I can say is I knew then that this would help change what we in the south called Southern Hip Hop.
If you have never taken a moment to listen to Juvenile or any of the other Hot Boys I suggest you start with his record and from there do a history lesson and just go down the line. You will not be disappointed I swear! Juvenile is one of the pioneers or Southern Hip Hop and still making some of the greatest music in the game to top it all off. When we talk about Hip Hop legends in the south and just in Hip Hop itself one of the names I feel get left out is Juvenile. I wont tell you have to like it but would rather just say listen for your self.
