Needless to say, death is painful. It is also a timely reminder of one's mortality and the selfishness that possibly defines one's own life. The death of my Aunt earlier this week was a reminder to me of how I take people in my life for granted; that once they are gone there is no scope for another conversation or an apology. All that I have left is memories, stained by all the pain she suffered in the last three years and what worries me the most is that with time, even these memories will fade, as memories often do. As Strings sings (and this translation is a mighty injustice) "butterflies of memories, fly away.."
Strings is a generation defining rock phenomenon based in Karachi, Pakistan, popular even in India, despite all other rivalries. On the other hand, Coke Studio is, in my opinion, the greatest thing to happen to music in the Subcontinent, of which Strings is now the producer! -- the greatest musical alliance ever. This particular track features in the second season way back in 2009. The album version is as great as this, but I prefer it for the softer tones and the raw emotion delivered with the ache of a loss and the hard acceptance of it.
If you are suffering from a loss, let Strings help you through it.
